Vend ‘N Mix Event Vendor | Crown Candle Co.

At SCULTP’D, one of our missions is to support and lend our services to as many entrepreneurs as possible.  To offer support and assist in developing small business owners’ brands is a passion of ours.  For this reason, we host Vend ‘N Mix events throughout the year. These events are curated to bring entrepreneurs and their supporters together to network while enjoying music, light bites, raffles, and wine, all while shopping from the featured vendors. 
 
We sat down with one of our featured vendors for our August 26th, 2017 event, Jolene, owner of Crown Candle Co.  Here is what she had to say:

1) How long have you been in business for yourself?

I have been in business for myself for about a year but the brand was just publicly launched about 2 months ago.

2) Why did you choose to start your own business?

I chose to start my business for a few reasons, but the main reason was that I wanted to start the process of building something that would give me the option to eventually be my own boss.  I’ve worked in Corporate America for the past 6 years and although I like what I do, I knew it was not something I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing. 

3) What is the most challenging and most rewarding thing about being an entrepreneur?

The most challenging thing for me would be time management.  Finding the time to balance my full time day job with my full time business and not missing a step for either can be a bit of challenge.  However,  I’m learning that being better organized and writing down everything that needs to get done, helps me to stay on top of things.  The most rewarding thing about being an entrepreneur is knowing that my company is mine and that the products that I hand make are so well received by others.



4) If you have attended a Vend ‘N’ Mix event before, what can you say about it?

Although I’ve never attended a Vend ‘N’ Mix event before, I did start following the event on social media early this year.  It looked like an event that was the perfect setting to support small businesses while meeting people of a similar demographic as myself.  

5) What’s one benefit of participating in vending events?

One benefit of participating in vending events is being able to meet your customers face to face and connect with them.  This is a benefit for both the company and the customer.  Many times we buy from these huge brands and never really know who’s behind the actual company.  At vending events you get to meet the maker/founder of the company and speak to them, you get to connect with them on a more personal level and you get to know more about the brand and products that you are supporting.  As the owner of a small business, I love meeting my customers because I get to know more about them and why they choose to support my brand.  This helps me to either improve or work harder at what it is that I’m doing.

6) What means of advertising are most relevant to your brand?

At this point and time in my business, I think that the most relevant means of advertising for my brand has been word of mouth.  I’m still working on building our social media presence but I’ve gone to different events and have had people come up to me and mention that they heard about my candles from a friend and were interested in purchasing.  Once we increase our social media presence I think that, along with word of mouth will then become our most relevant means of advertising for the brand.
